Inspired by Britain’s landscapes. Designed for modern interiors.
Â
Colour can do more than make a space look good.
It can change how a room feels, create visual connections between different areas, soften hard architectural surfaces and influence our perception of the spaces we spend time in.
For the new ekkofelt® Landscape Collection, we wanted to take a different approach to colour.
Rather than creating another generic palette of greys, neutrals and carefully named shades, we looked closer to home.
Britain’s landscapes.
From limestone villages and ancient woodland to rolling hills, open valleys and dramatic mountain scenery, the British landscape offers an extraordinary range of colours, textures and natural contrasts.
The result is the new ekkofelt® Landscape Collection: 30 PET felt colours inspired by Britain’s landscapes, designed for modern interiors.
There is something inherently familiar about landscape.
We might not all agree on our favourite colours, but most of us have an instinctive response to the colours we see in nature.
- The muted greens of woodland.
- The warm tones of weathered stone.
- The blue-grey of distant hills.
- The soft colours of grasses and open skies.
- The deep, almost black greens of ancient forests.
These aren’t colours that need to shout.
They work together naturally.
And that makes them particularly interesting for commercial interiors, where colour needs to do more than create visual impact. It needs to work alongside materials, furniture, lighting, architecture and the people using the space.
The Landscape Collection takes inspiration from those naturally occurring relationships.
Rather than giving the colours abstract names, we wanted each one to have a connection to a real landscape.
Cotswold
Soft limestone tones inspired by the villages and dry-stone landscapes of the Cotswolds.
Malvern
Warm stone tones inspired by the ancient hills and weathered ridgelines of the Malvern Hills.
Sherwood
Deep woodland green inspired by the ancient oak forests and timeless landscapes of Sherwood.
Solway
Soft coastal blue inspired by the expansive skies and tranquil waters of the Solway Firth.
Tynedale
Muted natural green inspired by the rolling valleys, meadows and woodlands of Tynedale.
Silverdale
Soft silvery grey inspired by the limestone pavements and ancient woodlands of Silverdale.
And these are just six of the thirty.
Other colours take their names from landscapes including Dartmoor, Exmoor, Cheviot, Mendip, Quantock, Wye, Brecon, Eden, Anglesey, Glencoe, Lomond, New Forest, Dales and Wessex.
The names aren’t intended to be decorative labels.
They are a reminder of where the inspiration came from.
For architects and interior designers, a colour palette is rarely about selecting one colour in isolation.
It’s about relationships.
- How does the wall colour sit alongside timber?
- How does a ceiling baffle relate to the floor?
- Can a meeting room feel distinct without becoming disconnected from the wider workplace?
- Can an acoustic treatment become part of the interior rather than something that needs to disappear?
This is where a considered palette becomes valuable.
The Landscape Collection has been created so that colours can be used individually or combined to create different moods and levels of contrast.
- A soft neutral can provide a backdrop.
- A muted green can introduce a connection to nature.
- A deeper colour can create definition.
- A blue can bring a sense of calm.
- And a warmer tone can add character to an otherwise restrained interior.
The result is a palette that can be subtle when it needs to be and expressive when the design calls for it.
Acoustic products are increasingly becoming an important part of the visual language of an interior.
Ceiling baffles, rafts, wall panels and acoustic lighting aren’t necessarily elements that need to be hidden. They can help define zones, create rhythm, introduce colour and contribute to the overall identity of a space.
That’s particularly relevant as commercial interiors become less institutional and more focused on creating environments where people actually want to spend time.
The Landscape Collection allows acoustic treatment to become part of that design conversation.
- A ceiling grid can become a visual feature.
- A wall panel can introduce colour and texture.
- A baffle can create rhythm across an open ceiling.
And integrated acoustic lighting can combine illumination, materiality and sound absorption in a single design element.
Acoustic performance doesn’t have to come at the expense of aesthetics.
"The Landscape Collection is our interpretation of the idea that nature can inspire contemporary interiors, not by recreating nature indoors, but by translating its colours and character into a modern acoustic material palette."
There is also a broader reason for looking to the landscape.
As designers increasingly explore biophilic principles and the relationship between people and their environments, natural materials, colours, textures and patterns are playing an increasingly important role in interior design.
That doesn’t necessarily mean filling a workplace with plants.
Sometimes the connection can be much more subtle.
- A natural colour palette.
- The texture of a material.
- The use of familiar tones.
- The introduction of organic forms.
- A sense of visual calm.
The Landscape Collection is our interpretation of that idea through acoustic felt.
Not an attempt to recreate nature indoors, but to take inspiration from the colours and character of the natural world and translate them into a contemporary material palette.
The story behind the collection isn’t only about colour.
ekkofelt® is made from 100% recycled PET, providing a material that combines acoustic performance with a more considered approach to material use.
Our ekkofelt® products offer:
- 100% recycled PET
- Carbon Neutral company
- Fire Rated
- Low VOC
- Printable
- Pinable
That means the same material can be specified across a wide range of acoustic applications, from wall panels and ceiling systems to baffles, rafts and acoustic lighting.
Colour becomes part of a wider material story.
There are plenty of acoustic felt manufacturers offering extensive colour choices.
So the objective wasn’t simply to add another 30 colours to the market.
The Landscape Collection is intended to give ekkofelt® its own visual language.
It’s rooted in the places we know.
It’s inspired by the landscapes around us.
And it’s designed for the contemporary commercial interiors we work in today.
It’s also part of a wider direction for ekko: a British acoustic manufacturer combining contemporary design, responsible materials and practical acoustic performance.
Forward thinking, but with respect for what came before.
The new ekkofelt® Landscape Collection will soon be available across our acoustic product range, giving architects, designers and specifiers the opportunity to use the same colour language across ceilings, walls, baffles and acoustic lighting.
Our new sample boxes are currently in production.
